Ethanol stocks made a very impressive run today as crude oil prices dramatically spiked. Prices hit $66 a barrel as tension in Iran escalated. As a result, Verasun(VSE) shares shot up 1.10(5.56%) to $20.90. Pacific Ethanol(PEIX) shares rose 0.82(5.08%) to $16.97. Even shares of GS CleanTech Corporation(GSCT.ob) climbed up .0090(31.03%) to $0.0380. All three of these companies traded double their average volume. As gratifying as today may have been, tomorrow may even be better. The highly anticipated USDA Planting Report is to be released and there is speculation that U.S. farmers will shift a record number of acres to produce more grain for ethanol. If this speculation is true and crude oil prices continue to rise, Ethanol stocks and shareholders will be in their utopia.
